The Lewmar 68000917 Footswitch Assembly is designed for controlling the operation of various marine accessories, primarily windlasses. This footswitch enables you to operate the windlass or other devices hands-free, enhancing safety and convenience onboard your boat. The assembly includes a white up switch, allowing users to easily deploy or retrieve anchors while keeping both hands free for sailing tasks, ensuring efficient and safe anchoring operations.

Is the Lewmar 68000917 Footswitch durable for marine use?

Yes, the Lewmar 68000917 Footswitch is specifically engineered to withstand the marine environment. It is constructed from high-quality materials that resist corrosion and adverse weather conditions, making it ideal for longstanding use on boats and yachts. The robust design ensures reliable performance, even in harsh sea conditions, catering to both recreational and professionals looking for dependable marine equipment.

Can the Lewmar footswitch be installed on any boat?

The Lewmar 68000917 Footswitch Assembly can be installed on various types of boats, provided they have a compatible windlass system. The installation process typically involves connecting the footswitch to the windlass's electrical system. It's advisable to consult a professional or refer to the installation manual for specific wiring instructions to ensure compatibility and safe operation. This makes it a versatile choice for yacht owners and those looking to upgrade their boating experience.

What are the dimensions of the Lewmar 68000917 Footswitch?

While the exact dimensions of the Lewmar 68000917 Footswitch Assembly may vary slightly with design changes, it generally features a compact and portable size suitable for mounting on deck. This smaller footprint allows for flexible positioning on your boat without intruding on valuable deck space. It’s particularly useful for optimizing layout on smaller vessels where every inch counts.

Is the Lewmar footswitch a single or dual control unit?

The Lewmar 68000917 Footswitch Assembly is typically configured as a single control unit, specifically designed for the 'up' operation of anchoring equipment. This design focuses on simplicity and efficiency for deploying the anchor. The single control allows users to concentrate on one action at a time, which can improve operational safety and effectiveness, particularly in busy environments on the water.

How does the footswitch connect to the windlass?

The Lewmar 68000917 Footswitch connects to the windlass via a pair of electrical wires that run from the switch to the windlass motor. Proper installation involves secure connections to ensure reliable operation. It's essential to use the correct gauge wiring and to follow the manufacturer's guidelines. This setup not only facilitates easy control of the windlass but also contributes to an organized and efficient deck layout.

Does the Lewmar footswitch require any maintenance?

Generally, the Lewmar 68000917 Footswitch requires minimal maintenance due to its robust marine-grade construction. However, regular checks for corrosion or wear, particularly at connection points, are advisable. Keeping the switch clean and free from debris will also promote optimal function. For boaters who frequently anchor or lift heavy loads, routine inspections can help ensure continued reliable performance under challenging conditions.

What should I do if the footswitch stops working?

If the Lewmar 68000917 Footswitch ceases to function, first check the electrical connections and inspect for any visible damage. Testing the continuity of the wiring can also help identify issues. If the problem persists, it may be necessary to replace the switch, as internal components may be faulty. Troubleshooting before replacing parts can save time and is a good practice for ensuring your equipment is fully operational.

What color options are available for the Lewmar footswitch?

The Lewmar 68000917 Footswitch Assembly is primarily available in a white finish, which complements most marine aesthetics. This color not only enhances visibility on the deck but also resists fading from sun exposure. The clean design is not just functional but also stylish, allowing it to fit seamlessly into various boat designs, whether modern or classic.
