Produktinformation
- Who am I?.. Where do I belong?.. Am I Eastern or Western? Where do I belong?.. How much do cultural characteristics make me who I am.. How much does social structure determine me? How independently can I think and how freely can I act from social and cultural conditioning? The mirrors I look at constantly crack and break. Is it really me that I'm thinking about, or am I struggling in an illusion?.. Amin Maalouf, who examines these crucial problems in his last essay book, Deadly Identities, thus opens the theoretical background of his novels. Amin Maalouf, who left his country at the age of twenty-six and settled in Paris, studied economics and sociology. He worked as a journalist. He published his first book in 1983. His first novel, Leo the African (1986), which is considered a classic today, won the Franco-Arab Friendship Award and the Tanios Rock (1993) Goncourt Prize. His second novel, Samarkand, published in 1988, was translated into many languages and placed the author at the center of worldwide interest. Turkish readers also loved and adopted the Lebanese writer Amin Maalouf, who based his literary problems on the basis of cultural archeology, with his novels Leo the African, Ports of the East, Samarkand and Tanios Rock, which were also published in our publications. Now Maalouf opens new horizons before us again with his new book and takes its place in our library. Show more

Amin Maalouf , Aysel Bora (Çevirmen) Format: Kağıt Kapak Editorial Review
**** "Deadly Identities" presents a thought-provoking exploration of identity and the prejudices that accompany various racial and ethnic backgrounds. Readers have highlighted the book's capacity to challenge ingrained assumptions, making it a valuable resource for those looking to broaden their understanding of identity issues. While some reviewers found the book less engaging in terms of storytelling, they appreciated its educational aspect and the insightful commentary it provides. Marked passages and reflections suggest that the content is dense and requires careful reading, especially for those unfamiliar with the themes discussed. Yet, it should be noted that the book's narrative style may not cater to everyone's taste; readers seeking a gripping page-turner may find it lacking in excitement. Instead, it serves as a more scholarly or biographical examination of identity rather than a fictional narrative, which can leave some readers feeling disconnected or uninterested. Overall, "Deadly Identities" is recommended for those interested in deepening their perspective on race and identity, though it may not be suited for casual readers looking for entertainment. **
