But as the author says, This is a love story in which love is what it looks like, what it is experienced, only communicated and remembered.The story we read from the young opera singer's perspective begins with the singer on the train he took to go to Madrid to take part in a performance, imagining how a woman sitting across from him and two men are in a relationship with each other. He then meets these three people at the luxury hotel where he is staying: Belgian banker Hieronimo Manur, his wife Natalia and their companion Dato. Manur, a jealous husband, assigns Dato to keep his wife away from men's interests, but the young opera singer does not hesitate to court Natalia between rehearsals, and Dato, who observes this, conveys the situation to his boss.
