What Stands Out
Produktinformation
- Hacı Ağa is a novella in which Iranian writer Sadık Hidayet hits both his horseshoe and his nail. Our hero, Hacı Ağa, is one of the men of every era where we can see thousands of similar ones in these lands. The side characters, some of whom he gave special names with name symbolizations, are useful individuals of every era. The panorama he drew in Iran in the 1940s tells the story of not only the Iran of that period, but also the entire region for more than the last century. It tells the story of how the tools of capital and its tools are used for their religious interests, those who consider every means permissible for their own interests, the brazen, stupid politicians we all know very well, and their minions. It shows once again that the pen is sharper than the sword. Because Hacı believed that life consisted of fraud, lies, deceit, quackery and fraud. The society he lived in was built on these foundations, so in such a society, everyone could better rip each other off, change their mouths and get away with it. He saw his own existence as sinful as that of others and did not refrain from any intrigue, flattery or juggling in order to be acquitted. He thought that language was a piece of meat that could turn everywhere, and therefore things such as bribery, betrayal, espionage, flattery and deception became a part of his character. This was the time! He was also one of the elites of his time. Show more

Sadık Hidayet , Okan Alay (Çevirmen) Editorial Review
"Haji Agha" emerges as a significant literary work that resonates deeply with readers who seek a nuanced understanding of societal and religious dynamics. The book portrays a critical reflection on the archetype of the "Haji Agha," individuals who ostensibly represent piousness yet often reveal a stark contrast between their public personas and private realities. The narrative draws attention to the hypocrisy embodied by these characters, often prioritizing wealth over genuine faith, and highlighting the disconnect in their preachings about humility and support for the less fortunate. Many readers find this exploration compelling and relatable, recognizing the "Haji Agas" within their own experiences and communities. The writing showcases the craftsmanship of Sadık Hidayet, whose prowess transforms this examination into a thought-provoking critique of religious and societal norms. Overall, "Haji Agha" is not just a story; it is a mirror reflecting the complexities of belief, integrity, and human behavior, making it a recommended read for anyone who grapples with the intersection of faith and morality in contemporary life. **
